Bring Your Best Friend to Vermont
We're so dog-friendly that our Canine Concierge, Jetson, was featured on Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl. USA Today recognized The Wilburton among New England's top 10 dog-friendly hotels - and for good reason. Our 30-acre hilltop estate offers trails, meadows, and plenty of space for morning walks with mountain views. Dogs are welcome in all vacation homes and cottage suites, with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels staying free in honor of Jetson. From our famous Canine Christmas slumber parties to including pups in weddings, we don't just allow dogs - we celebrate them. Manchester Village is dog-friendly too, with shops and outdoor restaurants welcoming four-legged guests.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dogs are welcome in all vacation homes, the Innkeeper's Cottage, and the Maxwell Suites. The Wilburton Mansion guest rooms are not dog-friendly to accommodate guests with allergies. However, the mansion does host special dog-themed events like our Canine Christmas slumber parties when all lodging becomes pet-friendly for the weekend. Battenkill Valley Mansion also welcomes dogs.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels always stay free in honor of Jetson, our Canine Concierge. Other breeds are $40 per night, per dog in guest rooms and suites. Vacation homes charge $125 per dog for the length of stay (not per night). Pre-registration is required - we'll send you a dog registration form after booking to gather information about your pup.
Dogs must remain leashed on estate grounds at all times. We recommend crating your dog when left alone in your room - housekeeping will not enter if dogs are uncrated. Dogs must stay off furniture and beds. Please clean up after your pet and dispose of waste in provided receptacles. Dogs are not allowed in the pool areas or indoor public spaces (except during special dog events).
Jetson is our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and official Canine Concierge. He was featured on Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl and is named for our family matriarch, Georgette "Gette," and her beloved rescue dog Jackson. Jetson often greets guests on the mansion porch and hosts our legendary Canine Christmas slumber parties. He understands it's just not a vacation if you can't include your four-legged family.
Yes! Our famous Canine Christmas slumber party happens the weekend following Thanksgiving each year. This weekend-long celebration includes breakfast with your pup, sing-alongs, group doggie strolls through Manchester Village, costume parades with prizes, and more. We also host dog-themed murder mystery weekends and welcome dogs in weddings - we even have a dog-friendly bridal suite. Check our events calendar for upcoming doggie celebrations.
Very much so. Manchester Village welcomes dogs in many stores, at outdoor restaurant patios, and throughout the village green area. There are excellent walking trails nearby, including sections of the Appalachian Trail. The village is about one mile down the hill - an easy walk with your pup. We're happy to provide specific recommendations for dog-friendly restaurants and shops.
Your dog will love our hilltop property. Thirty acres of trails, meadows, and woodland paths offer morning walks with mountain views and zero traffic. Visit our organic farm (dogs on leash), explore sculpture gardens, or simply settle into Adirondack chairs on the lawn while your pup sniffs around. It's a safe, private space where dogs can enjoy Vermont alongside their humans.
Yes, with pre-approval. Many guests bring two or more dogs - especially families with multiple pets. Fees apply per dog ($40/night for rooms, $125/stay for vacation homes). Since Cavalier King Charles Spaniels stay free, if you have two Cavaliers, neither pays. Please register all dogs when booking so we can prepare appropriate lodging and ensure we're not over capacity on property.
We understand dogs sometimes bark - it's natural. However, if your dog barks excessively or disturbs other guests, we may ask you to make other arrangements. This rarely happens, but when it does, it's usually because dogs are anxious being left alone in unfamiliar places. Crating helps with this. If you know your dog has separation anxiety, please mention it when booking so we can suggest the most private lodging options.
We provide waste bags at various locations around the property. Beyond that, please bring your dog's food, bowls, leash, crate, bedding, and any toys or comfort items they need. Manchester Village has excellent pet supply stores if you forget anything. During our special dog events, we provide organic Wagatha's dog treats and other surprises for participating pups.
Vacation homes are ideal for dogs - they offer private outdoor spaces, room to spread out, and you're not worried about barking disturbing neighbors through walls. The Innkeeper's Cottage is perfect for one or two dogs with its private deck and ground-floor layout. The Maxwell Suites work well too since each has its own entrance and outdoor patio. Call (802) 362-2500 and we'll help match you with lodging that suits your dog's personality and needs.
Absolutely! We've included countless dogs in weddings - from ring bearers to simply being present during ceremonies. We even have a dog-friendly bridal suite for getting ready with your pup nearby. Many couples include their dogs in photos throughout our 30-acre estate. Just let us know when planning your wedding and we'll help coordinate. Your best friend should be part of your best day.
