Frequently Asked Wedding Questions
The Marble Pavilion accommodates up to 225 guests for receptions. For ceremonies, our outdoor locations handle similar numbers, with indoor ceremony backup in the pavilion. We can accommodate 100+ overnight guests on The Wilburton estate, with the nearby Battenkill Valley Mansion adding capacity for 34 more. Total event capacity with nearby lodging reaches 150+ overnight guests. We require a minimum of 22 guest room bookings for wedding weekends.
Wedding packages include exclusive access to the Marble Pavilion, tables and chairs for your guest count, professional event coordination by Tajlei Levis and our events team, ceremony site setup, and access to our 30-acre estate for photos. Lodging for your wedding party and guests is booked separately. Catering, rentals (linens, place settings, specialty furniture), florals, photography, and entertainment are arranged through your preferred vendors - we provide a curated vendor list.
Full-service Wilburton weddings include catering through our culinary team, featuring options from elegant plated dinners to buffet receptions. Our organic Earth Sky Time farm can provide farm-to-table elements. For DIY weddings at Battenkill Mansion or Levity Farm, you may cook in the commercial kitchens or bring pre-approved caterers. We'll share our vetted vendor list including excellent local caterers we've worked with for years.
Late summer through fall (August through October) books earliest, with foliage season (late September through mid-October) as our most requested dates. Summer weekends (June-August) offer warm weather and long daylight. Spring (May-early June) brings blooming gardens and excellent availability. Winter weddings (November-March) provide snow-dusted romance, lower rates, and guaranteed availability. Each season offers distinct Vermont beauty - couples choose based on their vision and desired weather.
Peak season weekends (summer and fall) typically book 12-18 months in advance. Some couples book even earlier for specific foliage weekends or family-significant dates. Spring and winter dates offer more flexibility with 6-12 months lead time often sufficient. We occasionally have last-minute availability for flexible couples. Call (802) 362-2500 as soon as you have a preferred date - we'll check availability and hold your date with a deposit.
Absolutely. Most couples host rehearsal dinners on property Friday evening - either in the Marble Pavilion, on the mansion terrace, or as outdoor BBQs on our lawns. We can accommodate intimate family dinners or full guest celebrations. Our culinary team provides catering from casual BBQ featuring our farm's produce to elegant sit-down affairs. Many couples end rehearsal dinners with bonfires - a Vermont tradition that welcomes guests and kicks off the weekend beautifully
The Marble Pavilion serves as your weather backup - a stunning indoor space with floor-to-ceiling windows and mountain views that rivals any outdoor setting. We monitor weather closely and make the final call together, typically 24-48 hours before your ceremony. The pavilion's architecture and natural light mean indoor ceremonies feel open and connected to Vermont's beauty even if weather forces us inside. Many couples choose indoor ceremonies regardless of weather.
You choose your own vendors - photographers, florists, DJs, musicians, hair/makeup artists, officiants. We provide a curated list of excellent vendors we've worked with for years, but you're welcome to bring anyone pre-approved by our events team. Certain items (catering for full-service weddings, rental company for specialty items) work through established partnerships, but we're flexible and experienced working with various vendor teams to create seamless celebrations.
Yes, we highly recommend property tours. Call (802) 362-2500 to schedule with our events team. Tours let you walk the grounds, see the Marble Pavilion, view lodging options, and envision your celebration in our space. We'll discuss your vision, answer questions, and provide detailed proposals. Most couples tour 2-4 venues before deciding - seeing The Wilburton in person often makes the decision clear. Tours available by appointment year-round.
Three key differences: lodging capacity (100+ guests stay together on property), family ownership (three generations bringing personal service, not corporate hospitality), and versatility (historic mansion, marble pavilion, sculpture gardens, and organic farm create multiple celebration spaces). We're not a hotel with a wedding space or a venue with nearby hotel recommendations - we're an estate where your entire weekend unfolds in one place. Your celebration becomes an experience, not just an event.
Vermont regulations require outdoor music and loud gatherings to end by 10pm on weekends, 9pm midweek. Indoor music in the Marble Pavilion can continue later. Most weddings feature cocktail hour around 5-6pm, dinner at 7pm, and dancing until 10pm - plenty of time for celebration. We've never had couples feel rushed. Some extend celebrations with mansion after-parties, bonfire gatherings, or late-night pool parties (music off, conversation on).
